REVITALISATION OF RIVER GOMTI THROUGH RIVERFRONT DEVELOPMENT, LUCKNOW, U.P., INDIA
THESIS- MASTER OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, SCHOOL OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE, NEW DELHI
MAY 2013

The prime intent of this research is to define an approach towards integration of river corridors- an unexplored potential open spaces within the cities, with the surrounding urban landscape so that they make a positive contribution to the city structure. The concern, therefore arises from the fact that the urban natural entities are critical elements and hold immense potential to regenerate the depleting built environment. The rivers, in particular have been the prime resource on which historically the cities were dependent. As the cities evolved into modern ones, the relationship of the river and the city also changed which eventually turned into a negative relationship with each other. The most significant aspect in revitalising this interface is to identify the potential and constraint areas along the river to demonstrate an appropriate approach which transforms the river from a dumping backyard sites to an asset for the people.
